The oldest person in Uzbekistan, 124, lives in Fergana region
Kun.uz correspondent visited the oldest person of the country living in Buvayda district, Fergana region.
Huvaydo Umarova, 124, was born on January 1, 1895. Her passport confirms her identity and date of birth.
Though she has seen lots of ups and downs of life, two world wars and political repression during the Soviet era, her memory is still clear and her words are sharp.
She spoke about the revolution of the 1918s, days of famine in 1940s, works done at the construction site of the Great Fergana Canal and many more.
When asked if she had anyone in her family who lived over 100 years, she said – “my father Toshmat lived for 101 years, my uncle for 130 and my aunt 125 years.”
“I have 7 children – 4 sons and 3 daughters and tens of grandchildren” the woman said.
“God willing, I will turn 150,” she added smiling.
An interesting fact is that there are lots of senior citizens over the age of 90 in Buvayda district of Fergana region. The reason for this remarkable life expectancy in the district is not known.
