Turkmenistan blocks VPN apps, calls offenders for a “talk” at the Ministry of National Security

As the correspondents of the “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report, since January 17, Turkmenistan began blocking the work of VPN applications, with which local residents circumvented restrictions on access to social networks, instant messengers and other prohibited Internet resources.
As soon as the user turns on the application, the Internet connection will be lost on the phone and the user will have to “look for a new SIM card”.
Also, residents of Turkmenistan lost access to the Google Play store, from where users downloaded applications that allow them to bypass the lock.
After repeated violations, according to unconfirmed data, a person can be called for a “talk” in the Ministry of National Security.
The reason for the sudden increase in control over the Internet is not known yet. Residents put forward a variety of versions, starting with the fact that the authorities fear the population to begin distributing photos and videos of the possible consequences of the hurricane expected these days, ending with the fact that the Taliban have broken through the Turkmen-Afghan border.
