Tajikistani citizen preserves a Samarkand bread for 34 years (video)
Umarali Zulfov, a teacher from Khatlon province of Tajikistan, visited Samarkand in 1985. He brought lasting impressions and grand bread from the trip.
For the past 34 years, this bread has been kept in the house of Umarali Zulfov, without any damage. He had not eaten this bread during the difficult years and scarcity in the period of civil war in Tajikistan, “Asia Plus” writes.
“I have kept this bread as a symbol of friendship of our nations. We had hard days – there were times when my five children were starving and asked for bread. But nobody thought of breaking and eating this bread. Every time when I see this bread, I remember the wonderful days I spent in Samarkand. To keep the bread as it is, we occasionally polish it with sunflower oil and dry off under the sun. Many people do not believe that this bread has been stored for 35 years,” Umarali said.
Bread of Samarkand is famous for its unique taste and quality. It never goes stale even if stored for years. If you soak it in water and heat it up, it will taste freshly baked again.
