Uzbekistan strengthens administrative liability for cruel treatment of animals

Corresponding changes were made to the Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Administrative Responsibility.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Criminal Code and the Code on Administrative Responsibility of Uzbekistan”. According to the law, Article 111 (Animal Cruelty) of the Administrative Responsibility Code were made appropriate changes and additions.

Now the cruel treatment of animals, which cause their death or injury, as well as the torture of animals entails the imposition of a fine from 1 to 3 (earlier – 0.5 to 2) minimum monthly wages.

In addition, if the same offense is committed repeatedly within a year after applying an administrative penalty or if committed in the presence of a minor, it will be punished by a fine of 3 to 5 times the MMW or with an administrative arrest up to fifteen days. Earlier such penalties did not exist in the article.
