$430 million to be spent to electrify Bukhara-Misken-Urgench-Khiva railway
On July 14, khokim of the Khorezm region Farkhod Ermanov met with Senior Transport Specialist at Asian Development Bank Ko Sakamoto.
The parties considered cooperation issues.
As part of the program for development and modernization of engineering-communication and road-transport infrastructure for 2015-2019, the project on electrification of the Bukhara-Misken-Urgench-Khiva railway line will soon begin. Its length will be 467 km.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss financing of this project by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
As noted by Ko Sakamoto, studies have shown that the construction of a railway line will not harm the environment or the population living near the territory where the railway will pass. In the future, a comprehensive analysis will be conducted for approval by the ADB Board of Directors.
According to preliminary calculations, the cost of electrification of the railway section is $430 million, of which $168.20 million is borrowed from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), co-financed by the ADB.
