Police officer, who received $60,000 in bribe, sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment in Samarkand
The Taylak district court on criminal proceedings has considered a criminal case against an inspector of the Taylak district police department, who was detained upon receiving $60,000 in bribe, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
Reportedly, the defendant A. S. had been working as a senior inspector of the offenses prevention department at the Taylak district police office of the Samarkand region.
He offered several people to purchase the old building and underground space at the police station No.420 in the district center. In particular, the policeman assured a resident of the Charogbon mahalla N. M. that the administrative building and underground space of the police station No.420, which is worth 118 million 377 thousand 72 soums, was being sold for $70,000.
The fraudster promised that if the citizen N. M. hands over this amount of money to relevant government officials, he would take responsibility to issue the district governor’s resolution to own the building and the underground area and get registered it under his name. Thus, on May 15 of this year, the police officer was caught red-handed in his office with physical evidence while receiving $60,000 from the citizen.
According to the court’s verdict, A. S., who was found guilty under paragraph “a” of Article 28, 211-3 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, was sentenced to 13 years’ imprisonment.
