Erkin Yuldashev: “A corrupt official, regardless of his position, will definitely be punished”
On August 23, the Uzbek government made a report to the Senate at the XXI plenary session of the Upper House.
Senators asked the Deputy Prosecutor General Erkin Yuldashev questions about the place occupied by our country in the international anti-corruption rating.
Answering the question, Erkin Yuldashev noted that Uzbekistan is on the 158th line of the Transparency International rating. However, according to him, the level of anti-corruption in the country is not determined by only Transparency International reviews.
“Yes, there is a rating of the non-governmental organization Transparency International, and it, without a doubt, has a certain influence and weight in the international arena. At the same time, the whole world sees the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan over the past two years. Success of these reforms cannot be seen separately from the fight against corruption in our country. The head of state set a task for the relevant authorities to eradicate corruption in all areas of our society. The Anti-Corruption Law, the Anti-Corruption Program, and the Istanbul Roadmap signed by the president are clear evidence of this,” he said.
The Deputy Prosecutor General also said that this year the International Organization for Cooperation and Development conducted a special monitoring in the country.
“One of the important directions in the fight against corruption is the creation of opportunities for free and independent media activities. This will become the strongest anti-corruption factor. In addition, the population must be informed about measures taken in the field of combating corruption. The work carried out by the media, social networks, has a positive impact on the formation of an atmosphere of corruption intolerance in the society,” Erkin Yuldashev said.
He emphasized that in Uzbekistan, a corrupt official, regardless of his position, will be surely punished.
