Court pronounces verdict in Ikhtiyor Abdullayev’s case
Today, September 27, the trial over the former SSS Chairman Ikhtiyor Abdullayev and members of his criminal community was completed. The Military Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan has pronounced a verdict on this criminal case.
The Supreme Court’s press service told Kun.uz that Ikhtiyor Abdullayev had set up a criminal association, abused his powers and received bribes in large amounts. He also made deals, which contradict the interests of the Republic of Uzbekistan, he was found guilty of embezzlement, violating customs law and committing a number of other crimes. Abdullayev was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The court has established appropriate measures to cover material damage caused to the interests of the state, as well as legal and physical persons as a result of the crimes committed.
Ikhtiyor Abdullayev worked as a Presidential Adviser, from April 2015 to January 31, 2018 - Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan. He led the SSS from January 31, 2018 to February 2019. In January of this year, it was reported that he was fired at his own request because of poor health.
Later in the spring of 2019, it was announced that a criminal case was instituted against him for abuse of power and committing bribe-related crimes.
According to Kun.uz source, disclosure of Ikhtiyor Abdullayev’s criminal activities was led by Otabek Umarov, First Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Security Service.
