Regional khokim of Fergana, who said women are not allowed to wear headscarves, pleads guilty
Today, September 30, a meeting of the Commission on regulation and ethics was held at the Senate, during which the case of the regional khokim of Fergana Shukhrat Ganiyev was considered, Kun.uz correspondent reports.
The reason for this was the audio recording disseminated on social networks in which the khokim of the Fergana region Shukhrat Ganiyev orders his subordinates not to allow women to wear headscarves. Ganiyev also said men are prohibited to grow a beard.
According to him “explanatory works” have been carried out with women who wear headscarves and hijab.
“In this regard, dear khokims, I warn you: if I see women in the Islamic shawl at your meetings, I don’t care who she is, a chairman of the mahalla, teacher, entrepreneur, public figure or deputy – I will take this shawl off and put it in your mouth,” the regional khokim said.
According to Kun.uz correspondent, during the meeting, the khokim of the Fergana region pleaded guilty. In addition, he received a three-month probationary period, as well as a strict warning.
It should be reminded that it is not the first scandal Ganiyev is involved. Earlier, at a meeting held to discuss the Aktobe tragedy in which 52 citizens of Uzbekistan were killed, he accused residents of the Toshloq and Rishtan districts using foul language.
