12 countries want to host intra-Afghan negotiations, including countries in the region. This was announced on July 16 by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Hanif Atmar.
According to Atmar, Uzbekistan, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Qatar, China, Norway, Russia, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Japan showed interest in conducting intra-Afghan negotiations.
He added that consultations have not yet been held on the potential site for the negotiations. The Taliban wants negotiations to take place in different countries, turn by turn.
Last year, Uzbekistan proposed Samarkand as a potential place for peace talks between the Taliban and the official authorities of Afghanistan.
