Criminal case initiated against rioters at construction site of the GTL plant in Kashkadarya
Law enforcement agencies have opened a criminal case over the unrest at the Uzbekistan GTL plant in the Guzar district, Kashkadarya region.
“At present, a criminal case has been initiated against a group of employees, who took part in the demonstrations, under two articles of the Criminal Code: Intentional destruction or damage to property (Article 173-2, paragraph “v”) and hooliganism (Article 277-2, paragraphs “b”, “v”, “e”). The exact number of people involved in the case is still unknown,” Telegram channel “News of Kashkadarya” reports.
The protesters destroyed 19 CCTV cameras, 9 desks, 33 air conditioners and other equipment. The total damage was estimated at 480 million soums.
On October 21, workers at the Uzbekistan GTL plant staged a massive demonstration at the construction site. After that, officials from a number of responsible organizations visited the scene and eliminated the factors that caused the incident.
According to the administrative director of the Enter Engineering Pte. Ltd. Temur Abdullayev, the cause of the incident was “mental overwork”.
“Everyone knows what happened, a lot of videos have been circulated. The competent authorities will determine the true cause. If you ask our opinion, everything happened due to the mental overwork of the people,” he said.
“People were quarantined for 8-10 days, then they went to work, to the construction site. They worked in accordance with the schedule, but their duty was extended. This was a necessary measure. Some had to live here for 40-45 days. Of course, it’s hard,” Abdullayev added.
