“26 bridges in Uzbekistan are in poor condition” – Inspectorate for Quality Control of Road Construction
The enterprises that are responsible for the maintenance of these bridges have not taken the necessary measures to repair them and protect their foundations.
When inspecting the condition of bridges in the country, it was found out that some bridges suffered damage as a result of illegal extraction of stone, sand and gravel from rivers and streams, the press service of the Inspectorate said.
It is noted that as a result of non-compliance with safety requirements, the supports of 26 bridges built in Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Kashkadarya, Jizzakh, Tashkent and Andijan regions have suffered critical damage.
In particular, activities of the quarries have not been ceased: 10 quarries built over such rivers and canals as Karadarya, Zarafshan, Akdarya, Dargom in the Samarkand region, 6 – over the rivers Obizarang, Topalang, Surkhan, Oltinsoy in the Surkhandarya region, 4 – in the Kashkadarya region, 3 – over the Sangzor River in the Jizzakh region, 2 – over the Chirchik and Angren rivers in the Tashkent region, 1 – over the Aravonsoy River in the Andijan region. That is, they continue their activities illegally. In addition, the enterprises responsible for the maintenance of these bridges have not taken the necessary measures to repair them and protect their supports.
The Inspectorate has submitted relevant information to the Cabinet of Ministers on the protection of bridge piers from washing, prevention of their deterioration, curbing the activities of illegal quarries.
