Russia imposes ban on import of tomatoes and peppers from Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan

The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) imposed a ban on the import of tomatoes and peppers from the Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan into the Russian Federation. The ban comes into force starting December 11.

According to the press office of Rosselkhoznadzor, when carrying out quarantine phytosanitary control of tomatoes from the Uzbek manufacturer Sunny Land Export (Kashkadarya region), that has a phytosanitary certificate issued by the State Plant Quarantine Inspectorate of Uzbekistan, a tomato virus was detected.

“In order to prevent the spread of the virus in the territory of the Russian Federation, Rosselkhoznadzor introduces a ban on the import of tomatoes and pepper from the Kashkadarya region of Uzbekistan. The ban is effective from December 11, 2020,” the department adds.

Rosselkhoznadzor had previously imposed a ban on the import of tomatoes and peppers from the Fergana region (on November 26) and from the Navoi region (on December 4).
