Uzbekistan approves agreement with Kazakhstan on the protection of migrants’ rights
The President has approved the agreement between the governments of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan on labor activities and protection of the rights of migrant workers. It was signed on April 15, 2019, in Tashkent.
The purpose of the agreement is to regulate migratory flows and prevent illegal labor in the territories of both republics.
Migrants have the following rights:
- to have rest periods in accordance with the legislation of the host state and the terms of the employment contract;
- to receive a guaranteed free medical care for acute illnesses. The list of diseases shall be determined by the legislation of the host state;
- to receive information from the competent authorities of the host state concerning the conditions and procedures for staying and working in the territory of the country, etc.
The agreement also addresses issues of migrant workers’ wages and income taxes, pension and social security, payment and compensation in cases of death or injury resulting from the performance of duties.
