Uzbekistan, US voice readiness to support inter-Afghan inclusive negotiations
On May 2, the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov held talks with the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad.
The parties exchanged views on the current state and prospects of resolving the Afghan conflict, as well as mechanisms for promoting this process, the MFA press service reports.
The US Special Representative highly appreciated the comprehensive assistance provided by the Uzbek side under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Afghanistan.
Kamilov and Khalilzad noted the urgency and importance of the support by the interested parties for a comprehensive political settlement, which will put an end to the long-term war in Afghanistan.
The sides stressed that there is no military solution to the conflict.
“Uzbekistan and the United States will support inter-Afghan inclusive negotiations and work together on initiatives that promote the development of regional trade, the implementation of investment and infrastructure projects, as well as accelerate the integration of Afghanistan into regional processes,” the statement reads.
