Central Asian leaders adopt a joint statement 

The third Central Asian Summit of Heads of State was held on August 6 at the Avaza national tourism zone in Turkmenistan.

The summit, chaired by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, was attended by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tukayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, as well as Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Asia Natalia Gherman.

Following the meeting, a joint statement of the Central Asian leaders was issued.

In the statement, the presidents expressed readiness of the countries of the region to continue active cooperation in the implementation of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia (CANWFZ).

The parties also noted that one of the important factors in maintaining and strengthening security and stability in Central Asia is the rapid stabilization of the situation in neighboring Afghanistan. The presidents expressed their readiness to help achieve peace and reconciliation in Afghan society.

They expressed support for the efforts of all interested states and international organizations to ensure security and stability in Afghanistan, restore the country’s socio-economic infrastructure and its involvement in world economic relations.

Earlier, it was reported that the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev put forward a number of proposals on topical issues in Avaza.
