Russian military return home after completing joint exercises in Uzbekistan
Russian servicemen, who took part in joint exercises at the Termez mountain range in Surkhandarya region, have returned home, the Central Military District reported. The maneuver was held on the backdrop of the destabilized situation in neighboring Afghanistan with a view to practicing the repelling of possible threats, providing security and preserving stability in Central Asia.
About 1,500 servicemen from the two countries took part in the joint drills from August 2 to 6. Reconnaissance groups practiced the aspects of eliminating a sentry, conducting observation and a long march to a meeting point.
Russia sent four Tu-22M3 bombers to Uzbekistan as part of the exercises.
On August 9-10, the final stage of joint drills will take place in the Khatlon province of Tajikistan with the participation of militaries from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Russia.
