USAID provides equipment to Andijan Medicines Quality Control Laboratory
On October 8, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) handed over high-performance liquid chromatography equipment to the Andijan Medicines Quality Control Laboratory. This laboratory equipment is necessary for the quality assurance testing of pharmaceutical products according to international best practices and standards.
Representatives of the USAID Mission to Uzbekistan, Agency for Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry, Andijan Pharmaceuticals Free Economic Zone, and the Andijan Regional Branch State Center for Expertise and Standardization of Medicines and Medical Equipment (Andijan Medicines Quality Control Laboratory) participated in the ceremony.
During the event, Cherry Gumapas, Health Development Office Director of the USAID Mission in Uzbekistan stated, “This event highlights our shared commitment to upgrade the quality of Uzbekistan’s medical products to meet required international standards established by the World Health Organization’s prequalification process. Access to medical products tested under Good Laboratory Practice standards is an important objective of the Government of Uzbekistan. It will greatly benefit the health and well-being of the people of Uzbekistan. USAID is pleased to be part of this important effort.”
The high-performance liquid chromatography equipment was procured by USAID’s “Promoting the Quality of Medicines Plus (PQM+)” activity and will be used to test medical products in both the public and private pharmaceutical sectors.
