Circulation of counterfeit money identified in Tashkent and Kashkadarya region
Counterfeit euro coins were found in Tashkent and counterfeit 100,000-soum banknotes in Kashkadarya region, the PGO Department for Combating Economic Crimes reported.
It is reported that the Mirabad district branch of the PGO department conducted a pre-investigation check. It was found out that 2,470 counterfeit coins totaling 4,940 euros with a face value of 2 euros were received at the Center currency exchange office of the banking institution.
Here, these currencies were accepted without verification by the staff of the Cash Operations and Cash Circulation Department. As a result, the bank’s interests were damaged by 59.3 million soums.
According to the investigation conducted by the Kashkadarya regional department, it was found that at the cattle market of the LLC “M.”, unknown people paid 2.1 million soums to a citizen who sold 2 sheep. During the inspection, it was found that 20 units of 100,000-soum banknotes were counterfeit.
It was noted that criminal proceedings have been instituted under Article 176 of the Criminal Code (production of counterfeit money, excise stamps or securities, their transfer). An investigation is underway.
