USAID to allocate additional $2.4M to support the work of women in agricultural sector of Uzbekistan
The Asian Bureau of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will allocate an additional $2.4 million to support the work of women in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Agriculture reports.
The decision was made at a meeting with USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Änjali Kaur.
“A key element of USAID’s work with the government and the private sector in Uzbekistan is promoting women’s economic empowerment. I am thrilled to announce that USAID will provide an additional $2.4 million this summer to support the work of rural women in Uzbekistan. These funds will be used to support rural women in Uzbekistan, in particular in the Aral Sea region. For women, vocational training will be organized in areas such as business skills, microfinance, mentoring and employment programs,” Änjali Kaur said.
Further strengthening of cooperation between USAID and the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan in such areas as horticulture, value-added production, and women’s economic empowerment was also discussed as part of the joint Agribusiness Development project.
