Head of Uzbek Foreign Ministry, US Deputy Secretary of Defense discuss prospects for cooperation
The delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov, held talks with Deputy Secretary of Defense of the United States of America Colin Kahl.
According to the MFA press service, an exchange of views took place on priority areas of Uzbek-American military and military-technical cooperation.
In addition, proposals were considered to intensify cooperation in the field of ensuring regional security, combating international terrorism, organized crime, illegal arms and drug trafficking.
“The American side highly appreciated the efforts made by Uzbekistan to create an atmosphere of trust, partnership and good neighborliness in Central Asia, to strengthen peace and stability in the region,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The mutual interest of Uzbekistan and the United States in preventing the escalation of the situation in Afghanistan was also noted.
The importance of continuing cooperation in the field of training units of special operations forces, combat training of troops, military education, establishing interaction between the Academy of the Armed Forces of Uzbekistan and leading military educational institutions of the US Department of Defense was emphasized.
