At the beginning of his speech, the head of state noted that during the chairmanship of the leader of Azerbaijan, the position and influence of the Non-Aligned Movement in the international arena increased sharply, and for the first time in the history of the organization, parliaments and youth wings were established.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev pointed out that in recent years, in addition to fighting against the pandemic, humanity has also experienced the tragic consequences of climate change, natural disasters, and man-made tragedies. He noted that the scope of these problems is expanding and they pose a serious threat to the security and sustainable development of not only some countries, but also entire regions.

“Of course, we can overcome such difficult and complex tests only together, with close support of each other. In this sense, Uzbekistan is in favor of further strengthening the activities of the Global Platform to achieve the main goals of the Sendai Hadli program until 2030,” he said.

He offered to establish a special monitoring and scientific research network of the Non-Aligned Movement in order to deeply study the causes of such emergencies and eliminate the consequences of the disaster, and expressed his readiness to place this institute in Uzbekistan.

Also, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that now geopolitical and ideological conflicts are intensifying, and new hotbeds of unrest are emerging in different parts of the world under their influence. He noted that a global solution to the long-standing conflicts in the Middle East region and Afghanistan has not yet been found. He said that the danger of terrorism and extremism is growing in all countries, especially recently.

“In such a dangerous situation, we call on the Non-Aligned Movement to lead common efforts to strengthen the international legal framework for combating all forms of terrorism. In this process, we firmly believe that all member states of the movement will further activate multilateral cooperation within the framework of the United Nations Organization,” he said.

“In the process of reforming the United Nations, the members of the Non-Aligned Movement should have a permanent seat in the Security Council [where China, Russia, the United States, Great Britain and France are permanent members]. I believe that you will support Uzbekistan’s proposal to establish an international negotiating group at the UN to agree on an algorithm for the Afghan issue,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

During the speech of the head of state, he touched upon another important issue on the global agenda – mitigating the complications of the ongoing economic crisis. He said that in such a difficult situation, the biggest burden and negative impact is borne by the developing countries.

“Prestigious conferences like today’s summit should first of all open the door to wide economic opportunities for the development of mutual practical cooperation, promotion of joint programs and large projects. In order to implement this auspicious plan, I propose to regularly hold the Economic Forum of the Non-Aligned Movement on the eve of the summits of our organization,” the President said.

In addition, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the opportunities of young people to get quality education and professional knowledge, to use medical services and to play sports are sharply decreasing.

“The worst thing is that the confidence and determination of the young generation to find their rightful place in life is waning. Also, the influence of destructive and radical ideologies on the thinking of thousands of young people is increasing. Last year, we held the second global conference on youth education in Tashkent, aimed at solving these issues,” the head of state said.

In this regard, in order to harmonize policies and plans, to share the accumulated experiences, he stated that he intends to organize the “Unlimited Opportunities Summit” of the movement’s youth network in Samarkand in the future.
