The reasons for leaving the post are not specified.

“I would like to thank the distinguished President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev for the special attention paid to the issues of ensuring the rights and interests of the child, the harmonious development of the younger generation, the protection of motherhood and childhood,” Aliya Yunusova wrote on her Facebook page.

“I thank everyone who collaborated, supported, contributed, believed and worked with us in the formation of a strong system for ensuring and protecting children’s rights that meets international standards, especially the head of the UNICEF Children’s Fund in Uzbekistan, Mr. Munir Mammadzade and his team for their support and promoting initiatives in the interests of children,” A. Yunusova noted.

The institution of the Commissioner for Children’s Rights was introduced in Uzbekistan in 2019. At the same time, the position of Ombudsman for Children’s Rights was introduced, which was equal in status to the Deputy Commissioner of Parliament for Human Rights (Ombudsman).

In August 2021, a separate institution of the Children’s Ombudsman was established and the position of the Deputy Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights (Ombudsman) – the Commissioner for Children’s Rights – was abolished.
