Asian Games: Uzbekistan bagged 71 medals, secured fifth place in overall team standings
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the members of the sports delegation of Uzbekistan on their performance in the 19th Asian Games held in China.
Members of the national team won 22 gold, 18 silver, and 31 bronze medals in these competitions, where 11,000 athletes from 45 countries of the Asian continent participated. Uzbekistan secured fifth place in the overall team standings after China, Japan, South Korea, and India.
“Our athletes have overtaken athletes from such countries as Chinese Taipei, Bahrain, North Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Kuwait, countries that are considered rather developed in terms of sports. They have opened another bright page in the history of Uzbekistan.
Our talented youth proved that they are unmatched in wrestling, judo, boxing, athletics, and rhythmic gymnastics.
Such achievements at the Asian Games are of great importance to us. You showed the world the glory of our national sports school and what great things the young people of Uzbekistan are capable of.
I believe that you will reach great heights at the 33rd Olympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024,” said the president in his congratulatory message.
On behalf of the people, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his gratitude to the parents and coaches of the athletes.
“I once again sincerely congratulate you on your historic results at the Asian Games, a major international sports competition, and wish you all good health, new victories in your future activities, and happiness for your families,” says the congratulatory text.
