A foreigner tries to smuggle ancient coins out of Uzbekistan
In the luggage of a passenger flying on a flight from Urgench to Istanbul, customs officers found 50 ancient coins, including coins from the 15th century.
At the Urgench international airport, during an X-ray inspection of one of the passengers’ luggage, 50 ancient coins were discovered, the press service of the Customs Department of Khorezm region reported.
In particular, in the bag of a foreign citizen flying on the Urgench - Istanbul flight, coins dating back to 1898, 1903, 1908, 1911, 1914, 1916, 1961, 1962, 1963, as well as copper coins minted in Bukhara and Samarkand in the 15th century and dating back to the Timurid period were discovered.
It is noted that the passenger did not report the coins in the declaration and during the verbal interrogation.
As a result, the coins were confiscated and transferred to state ownership based on the decision of the Urgench city criminal court. The confiscated coins were transferred to the State Museum-Reserve of Khiva.
