Energy Ministry temporarily suspends practice of automatically shutting down electricity when consumption exceeds the set limit

The Ministry of Energy responded to rumors about possible power outages when electricity consumption exceeds 4.5 kWh and noted that the practice of automatically turning off electricity will be temporarily suspended.

According to the rules for the use of electrical energy, based on the minimum power of devices required for the needs of consumers and their location, the power through the meter is limited to 10-15 kW.

“4.5 kWh is a misinterpretation of this clause. This practice is used in areas with high consumption. When the consumer turns off unnecessary equipment and reduces the voltage to the established norm, the meter will turn on automatically within 15 minutes,” the Ministry of Energy explained.

However, due to cold weather, this rule has now been temporarily lifted. That is, households that consume electricity in excess of the established norm will not be automatically disconnected from the network.

“If there is a power outage in your home due to overload, the power supply will automatically be restored within 10-15 minutes after the load is reduced,” the ministry noted.

Consumers were urged to avoid using unnecessary electrical equipment whenever possible and save energy.

The Ministry of Energy also explained what electrical equipment can be turned on so as not to exceed the 15-kWh limit.

For example, it takes 6 refrigerators, 3 air conditioners with an average power of 1.5 kW and 3 electric ovens to operate simultaneously for one hour to consume 15 kWh of electricity.

“The consumption of 3 TVs and 20 light bulbs can be only 1.5-2 kWh. 98% of the population has absolutely no reason to worry,” the ministry noted.
