Novo-Angren power station to pay 1 billion UZS for causing air pollution
The Novo-Angren Thermal Power Plant (TPP) has been fined over its substantial air pollution levels during an inspection which revealed an 80% reduction in the efficiency of its dust and gas cleaning equipment.
The Tashkent Regional Environmental Department conducted an inspection and announced the results via their press service. It was discovered that emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere exceeded permissible levels significantly due to the decreased efficiency of the power plant's gas cleaning filters.
As a result, the Novo-Angren TPP is ordered to pay compensation totaling 887 million soums for the pollution of the atmosphere and an additional 116 million soums for the discharge of industrial waste in unauthorized areas. Documents have also been submitted to law enforcement agencies to take appropriate action against 11 officials responsible for these violations.
This incident follows similar environmental fines, notably the recent report about the Tashkent TPP, which was sanctioned to pay 1 billion soums for air pollution caused by burning mazut (heavy fuel oil).
