UN Secretary General António Guterres: In today’s difficult times, Nowruz promotes dialogue, good neighborliness and reconciliation

On March 20, the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN, together with the diplomatic missions of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey, organized a festive event on the occasion of International Nowruz Day.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said in his video message that Nowruz is a holiday of new beginnings, the beginning of a new year, the arrival of spring and the rebirth of nature. He emphasized that Nowruz unites more than 300 million people in the world and symbolizes the commonality of different nations and cultures. According to him, the values of this holiday are consonant with the principles of peace of the United Nations, including human rights and dignity. The UN Secretary General emphasized that in today's difficult times, Nowruz promotes dialogue, good neighborliness and reconciliation.

The UN chief called for being guided by the “spirit of solidarity of Nowruz”, strengthening harmony in protecting the planet and moving forward towards a brighter future as one human family. He wished everyone happiness, health, peace and goodness.

Addressing the participants of the event, the Chairman of the 78th session of the General Assembly, Dennis Francis, highly appreciated the cohesion of the missions of 12 UN member states, representing different regions of the world, in the solemn celebration of Nowruz.

He noted that in these difficult times, Nowruz takes on new meaning and is a symbol of resilience. Called on all UN member states to unite in building a secure future for our world.

The participants of the event separately emphasized that Nowruz, whose history goes back about 3 thousand years, symbolizes not only the beginning of the year and the awakening of nature, but also kindness and mutual understanding, unity and harmony with nature, mercy, nobility and generosity, a peaceful and prosperous life, which everyone should strive for.
