Japan and Türkiye express interest in building toll roads in Uzbekistan
Japanese company Sojitz and Turkish company Rönesans are interested in public-private partnership projects.
Sojitz and Rönesans have shown interest in participating in transportation sector projects based on PPP (public-private partnerships).
On May 1, Uzbekistan's Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev met with Yasuhide Machida, the General Manager of the European branch of Sojitz, and Cem Özoğuz, the Chairman of the Board of Rönesans.
The meeting focused on cooperation in implementing public-private partnership projects in the transport sector.
Specifically, representatives of foreign companies expressed their interest in participating in prospective projects for constructing toll roads in Uzbekistan.
The foreign company representatives were informed about the projects planned to be implemented in Uzbekistan based on PPP in the transport and road management sectors.
At the end of 2023, a project was developed for the construction of the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road. EBRD provided a grant of $350 thousand for the development of the technical and economic justification.
