On May 8, General Motors announced that it would cease production of the gasoline-powered Chevrolet Malibu this fall. Fairfax Assembly, where the Malibu is currently built, will produce the next-generation Bolt electric hatchback, which will replace the discontinued sedan.

In addition, the same plant will resume assembly of the Cadillac XT4 crossover after a short break. However, unlike the Bolt, the XT4 will retain its traditional gasoline engine lineup.

Over its history, which began in 1964 as the top modification of the Chevelle, over 10 million copies of this model were sold.
