Uzbekistan to enhance partnership with UN Women
Today, May 14, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a UN delegation led by the Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Director of the UN Women agency, Sima Sami Bahous.
The UN delegation is on a visit to Uzbekistan to attend the Asian Women's Forum, which recently took place in the city of Samarkand.
The leader of the leading UN institution on gender equality conveyed heartfelt greetings and best wishes from Secretary-General António Guterres to the President of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan's ongoing reforms targeted at fundamentally improving the status and condition of women in society received high praise.
During the meeting, issues of further deepening constructive partnership between our country and the UN Women structure were discussed.
It should be noted that Uzbekistan has joined all the major international conventions on the protection of rights and the promotion of the interests of women and actively participates in the work of the respective UN Commission.
The fruitful outcomes of the Asian Women's Forum were highly commended. The importance of its transformation into a permanent platform for dialogue on expanding women's rights in the Asian region was highlighted.
The sides stressed the necessity of adopting a bilateral Program of Cooperation for the medium term, including specific projects and activities, particularly those involving regional interaction.
The opening of a UN Women country office in Uzbekistan was supported.
