Uzbekistan considers streamlined border crossing in exclaves for neighboring countries
A possible amendment to the customs procedure regulations for the passage of vehicles across the border is being considered.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Finance and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have published a draft resolution on the addition of supplementary regulations concerning the customs formalities for vehicles crossing the customs border.
According to Articles 3 and 4 of the regulations on customs procedures for vehicles crossing the border, foreign vehicles are currently required to enter or transit through the republic based on a bond.
However, in current practice, the entry of foreign vehicles into the republic's exclaves is being conducted without the requirement for a customs bond to be formalized by customs authorities.
The establishment of simplified customs control for citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan within Uzbekistan's exclaves would also ensure that Uzbek citizens residing permanently in the exclaves of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan could be subject to simplified customs control.
The draft resolution proposes to augment Article 2-1 with a new subclause, tentatively phrased as follows: "Concerning foreign vehicles being brought into or transiting through the exclaves of Uzbekistan."
