June sees 0.2 percent decline in consumer prices in Uzbekistan

A seasonal deflation was recorded in the consumption sector in June, leading to a 0.2 percent decrease in prices. This is related to the seasonal decline in fruit and vegetable prices. Annual inflation stands at 10.6 percent.

A 0.2 percent deflation was recorded in Uzbekistan in June 2024. This is due to the customary decrease in fruit and vegetable prices, as reported by the Statistics Agency.

The first half-year inflation is at 5.2 percent, with the annual inflation rate at 10.6 percent.

In the past month, food products decreased by 1.2 percent, non-food items by 0.8 percent, and public services by 0.9 percent.

Education services saw the highest increase in June at 2.9 percent. This is attributed to a 20 percent increase in payments for children’s participation in state MMT activities. Special children's boarding services also saw an increase of 2.4 percent. Prices remained stable in higher education services.

In the first half of 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year, a higher inflation was observed in catering services, water, electricity, gas, and heating services (35.2 percent, 1.9 percent).

Prices of food products increased in one year in the following categories: legumes and dried fruits (5.5 percent), meat products (4.8 percent), fish and other seafood (6 percent), fruits and vegetables (25.9 percent), ready-to-eat food products (6.3 percent), non-alcoholic beverages (7.5 percent).

Under the backdrop of declining prices for gasoline and propane, methane rose by 1.9 percent in June of the current year.

In May 2024, goods and services in the consumption sector increased by an average of 2.8 percent. In this, the consumer price index consisted of a 2 percent increase in the prices of food products, 0.3 percent for non-food items, and an average of 15.2 percent for household services prices.
