Kazakhstan plans to triple Russian gas transit to Uzbekistan and expand supplies to China
This year, Kazakhstan plans to increase the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as the transit of Turkmen and Uzbek gas to the People's Republic of China.
"In October 2023, the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan was launched. In 2023, 1.28 billion cubic meters were transported, and this year we plan to increase it to 3.8 billion cubic meters with a further increase to 11 billion cubic meters per year," Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliev said during a government meeting, according to Vlast.kz.
Satkaliev added that the transit of Turkmen and Uzbek gas to the People's Republic of China is showing steady growth. "This year we plan to increase the transit to 37.1 billion cubic meters," he said. If the plan is realized, then the transit of gas to China will increase by 1.5 billion cubic meters compared to last year.
The Kazakh official stressed that the issue of increasing the transit of Russian gas to Kyrgyzstan is under discussion.
