Uzbekistan targets reducing poverty rate from 11% to 7% in three years with comprehensive monitoring

The popular Al Harir newspaper from Saudi Arabia and the Middle East has published an article titled "Uzbekistan is Paying Serious Attention to Reducing Poverty and Improving the Country’s Social Protection System," according to the Dunyo IA.

The article informs readers about President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's presentation on August 14 regarding measures to reduce poverty and improve the social protection system.

Uzbekistan aims to reduce the poverty rate from 11% to 7% over the next three years. The current system has made it challenging to improve effectiveness. There is a lack of clarity in selecting impoverished families, extracting them from poverty, and allocating funds in a consolidated manner.

The presentation included proposals for balanced development in these two areas, as highlighted in the material.

According to this, based on the analysis, criteria for identifying poverty and a targeted list will be developed. This will include individuals from the "Single Social Protection Registry" and those at high risk of falling into poverty. Such families will be approved through voting by the "neighborhood committee" and its activists. All social services and assistance aimed at alleviating poverty will be provided by "Human" centers.

It is noted that a unified questionnaire will be developed to study the factors of poverty in the fields of social protection and employment. Based on this, families will be assessed and categorized into three groups. Each family will receive individualized support to help them "stand on their feet."

The publication also reveals that Uzbekistan allocates 14 trillion UZS annually for poverty reduction. The implementation of poverty reduction programs will be monitored in three phases: at the neighborhood and district level, regional level, and national level. Public oversight will be strengthened in this regard.
