State health insurance to be introduced in two regions from October 1
The system will be launched in Karakalpakstan in 2025 and will cover other regions by 2027.
From October 1, state health insurance will be introduced in Tashkent and the Syrdarya region, the presidential press service reports.
By the end of this year, it is planned to implement the information systems "Electronic Polyclinic" and "Electronic Hospital", as well as train medical workers in their use. Moreover, the institutions will be equipped with the necessary equipment and network equipment.
From January 1, 2025, insurance will be launched in Karakalpakstan, and by the end of 2026 it will cover other regions of Uzbekistan.
The importance of this system is that it will introduce results-based financing methods into medicine.
Provision of medical services and provision of medicines within the framework of insurance is carried out at the expense of the state budget. In turn, this means that the population will not be charged additional fees for medical insurance.
Health insurance
In January, a new institution was created within the Ministry of Health — the Center for Health Projects. The project office is to attract the private sector to PPPs and reform the pharmaceutical sector.
In 2024, the implementation of state health insurance mechanisms in Tashkent will begin. The system is planned to be financed from general taxes, without charging additional fees.
In July, Acting Health Minister Asilbek Khudayarov announced a transition to e-prescriptions this year. The system is designed to prevent patients from being prescribed unnecessary medications and to help combat pharmaceutical smuggling.
