Uzbekistan stocks 5.1 billion cubic meters of gas for winter, up from last year

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, has announced that more than 5 billion cubic meters of gas have been stored in the "Gazli" and "Khojaobod" underground gas storage facilities in preparation for the upcoming winter. This figure represents an increase of 1.1 billion cubic meters compared to the previous year.

The minister emphasized that preparations for the autumn-winter season began early this year. "In February, the president issued directives to ready the systems, including gas extraction, delivery, distribution, and power generation," Mirzamakhmudov stated.

He also highlighted that the focus throughout 2024 has been on increasing power generation capacity. Previous years had seen challenges due to growing consumption and insufficient additions to capacity, leading to energy shortages.

"The most important aspect is the launch of renewable energy generation capacities," Mirzamakhmudov noted, adding that comprehensive preparations have been made to ensure fuel reserves are in place for the winter.

As of now, 5.1 billion cubic meters of gas have been stored for the winter, exceeding last year’s reserves by 1.1 billion cubic meters, the minister confirmed.
