Over 60 billion UZS to be paid to residents affected by Angren coal mine expansion

The compensation is being provided as part of the relocation and demolition process necessitated by the enlargement of the coal mine operated by the state-owned company, Uzbekkumir JSC. The first phase of the project has already seen 91 homeowners receive a total of 13.1 billion UZS in compensation. For the second phase, which involves the relocation of 95 properties (including 73 residential buildings, one non-residential building, and 21 land plots), an additional 49.2 billion UZS will be required.

Local authorities conducted open discussions with affected residents, and agreements were reached with all property owners. Documents have been finalized, and notarized contracts have been signed with 77 owners. For the remaining 18 properties (all land plots), notarized contracts will be signed once inheritance documentation is completed.

On October 7, Zoyir Mirzaev, the governor of the Tashkent region, visited the neighborhood to inspect the ongoing work and meet with residents. The regional administration highlighted that a task force and working commission have been formed, consisting of local residents to ensure the transparency and fairness of the compensation process.

It is worth noting that a law passed in 2022 outlines procedures for the expropriation of land for public needs, including compensation. The law recognizes land acquisition for the exploration and development of mineral deposits as a public necessity.
