Authorities uncover 5 billion UZS of energy and gas theft at filling stations in Tashkent and Samarkand
Authorities have uncovered a large-scale theft of natural gas and electricity by gas stations in Tashkent and Samarkand, resulting in significant financial losses to the state and society. The cases are currently under investigation following criminal charges filed under the relevant article of the Criminal Code.
According to the Press Service of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation revealed that the head of the LLC "B." and others tampered with the gas meter at their gas station. This manipulation allowed them to steal 1.5 million cubic meters of natural gas, causing damage worth 2.7 billion UZS.
In a similar case in Samarkand, a preliminary investigation conducted by the regional office of the Economic Crimes Department, in collaboration with the local branch of "UzEnergoInspection," exposed another illicit scheme. The head of LLC "M.G." in the Pastdargom district altered the wiring of an electricity meter at their gas station, allowing them to illegally consume 2.1 billion UZS worth of electricity for commercial purposes.
Both incidents have led to criminal charges under Article 169 (Theft) of the Criminal Code, and investigative actions are ongoing.
