Car manufacturing in Uzbekistan sees growth despite declines in key brands

Uzbekistan has reported a 3.9% increase in automobile production over the first nine months of 2024, with a total output of 278,100 passenger cars, according to the latest data from the Statistics Agency. However, this growth comes amid significant declines for specific brands, notably Chery and Lada.

UzAuto Motors continues to dominate the market, accounting for a staggering 92.2% of all vehicles produced in the country. Despite its overall success, September saw a slight decrease in monthly production compared to August.

The data reveals that the production of Cobalt cars surged to 117,700 units, marking a 53.8% increase compared to the same period last year. In September alone, 15,653 Cobalt vehicles were produced, slightly lower than the output in August.

Following UzAuto Motors, Damas ranked second in production with 70,000 vehicles produced, a 16.6% increase, including 10,485 units manufactured in September. The Tracker crossover follows closely with 31,197 units, reflecting a 10.4% growth, of which 3,743 were produced in September.

The Onix sedan saw a 12% increase in production to 24,753 units since the start of the year, with September output reaching 3,146 cars. Conversely, production of the Gentra-Lacetti has dropped to 12,800 units, a staggering 4.5 times lower than last year, following its cessation of manufacturing at the end of July.

KIA emerged as the largest alternative producer, with total production reaching 14,214 units, representing a 13.8% increase compared to the previous year. The monthly output remained stable at 1,419 vehicles.

In contrast, the production of Chery vehicles fell by 23% to 5,619 units, with only 419 produced in September. Haval's output also reached a three-month low, with 413 vehicles produced out of a total of 1,803. Notably, production of Lada vehicles has yet to resume.

This mixed performance reflects the evolving landscape of Uzbekistan's automotive industry, with substantial growth for some brands while others face significant challenges.
