Average monthly salary in Uzbekistan rises above 5.1 million UZS

The average nominal monthly salary in Uzbekistan has exceeded 5.1 million UZS, reflecting an annual increase of 16.4% over the first nine months of 2023. However, the growth rate has decelerated from 18.5% during the same period last year.

According to the Statistics Agency, the average nominal salary reached 5.15 million UZS in January-September 2023, compared to 4.42 million UZS in the same period of 2022. These figures are based on data from legal entities, excluding agricultural enterprises and small businesses. The calculation considers earnings of employees with employment records, including personal income tax, contributions to union funds, salaries, bonuses, and compensation payments.

Tashkent city maintained the highest average nominal salary among the regions, growing from 7.19 million UZS to 8.68 million UZS, representing an annual increase of 20.1%. The growth rate slightly declined from last year’s 20.2%. Following Tashkent City, other regions with significant average salary increases included Navoi region (from 5.7 million to 6.6 million UZS), Tashkent region (from 4.4 million to 4.95 million UZS), Andijan (from 3.85 million to 4.46 million UZS), and Bukhara region (from 3.78 million to 4.2 million UZS).

The banking, finance, and insurance sectors continued to record the highest average salaries despite a decline in growth rates — from 30.2% last year to 13.1% in 2023. The average salary in these sectors increased from 12.8 million UZS to 14.49 million UZS over the past year.

Conversely, the lowest average salaries were observed in the healthcare and education sectors. In healthcare, salaries rose from 2.92 million UZS to 3.3 million UZS, marking a growth rate of 12.9%, down from 16.4% last year. In the education sector, salaries increased from 3.05 million soums to 3.48 million soums, with the growth rate also slowing to 14.3% from the previous 17%.
