Uzbekistan sees surge in vehicle registration plate sales, generating 620 billion UZS

In the first nine months of 2024, over 152,000 vehicle registration plates were sold through the Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange (UZEX), generating a total revenue of 620 billion UZS. This marks a remarkable increase in both sales volume and revenue compared to the same period last year, with figures rising by 2.6 times.

According to a press release from UZEX, individual buyers accounted for 97% of the sales, while legal entities made up the remaining 3%. The highest price paid for a registration plate remained unchanged at 517.1 million UZS, which is two-thirds higher than the starting price. This particular plate was purchased by a legal entity.

Following closely behind was a "special" registration plate sold on July 10 for 508 million UZS. Additionally, another plate was auctioned off in September for 351.9 million UZS.

In total, 87,000 vehicle registration plates were sold through UZEX in 2023, generating 396.1 billion UZS in revenue. The record for the most expensive "special" plate was set by a legal entity, which acquired it for 450 million UZS, slightly surpassing the previous record established in 2021.

During the first half of 2024 alone, sales on the exchange reached 426.2 billion UZS, surpassing the total sales for the entire previous year and tripling the figures from the same period last year.
