Uzbekistan to introduce practical firearms training in school curriculums to promote shooting sports

A new presidential decree aimed at fostering the development and popularity of shooting sports nationwide has been announced. The decree, titled "On Measures for the Further Development and Promotion of Shooting Sports," outlines a phased plan to establish shooting facilities, enhance specialized training, and introduce practical firearms instruction into educational curriculums.

Under the initiative, training centers for Olympic and Paralympic sports will establish shooting ranges for 10-meter distance training and equip them with modern gear and equipment. Additionally, beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year, the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports will offer a new undergraduate program titled "Sports Activity: Shooting and Clay Pigeon Shooting," designed to prepare students for professional careers in shooting sports.

To strengthen national capabilities, the decree also mandates regular workshops, training sessions, and master classes for coaches, referees, scouts, and specialists in shooting sports, with the participation of both local and international experts.

From 2025, the decree mandates annual national shooting competitions, including the "Sniper" Cup for military and law enforcement officers, as well as national championships across various age groups in shooting sports. Furthermore, sports schools at district and city levels will gradually establish specialized shooting sports groups to increase youth participation.

Significantly, from the 2025-2026 academic year, all secondary school curriculums will include practical exercises on the "Tactical and Technical Characteristics of Firearms and Pneumatic Sports Weapons" within the preliminary military training course. To facilitate these activities, schools will collaborate with military units, institutions, and training grounds.
