Uzbekistan promotes regional unity with new travel policy, plans ID card usage with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan for cross-border travels

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced plans to allow citizens of Uzbekistan to travel to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan using only their ID cards, signaling a significant step toward fostering stronger regional ties. This initiative, similar to the arrangement currently in place with Kyrgyzstan, reflects Uzbekistan’s broader commitment to deepening cooperation within Central Asia.

Speaking on the matter, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of revising Uzbekistan's Foreign Policy Concept to align with the country's evolving priorities. "At present, citizens of Uzbekistan can travel freely to Kyrgyzstan with ID cards. We are now planning to implement the same arrangement with Kazakhstan and Tajikistan," he stated.

The ID card-based travel agreement with Kyrgyzstan, which took effect on September 1, 2023, has already demonstrated its success in facilitating cross-border mobility and strengthening bilateral ties. Extending this policy to other neighboring states is expected to further enhance good neighborly relations and regional stability.

The president also highlighted the importance of promoting regional security and stability as key foreign policy objectives. Strengthening ties with Central Asian neighbors remains a strategic priority for Uzbekistan as the nation continues to lead initiatives that foster unity and cooperation in the region.

During the meeting, President Mirziyoyev welcomed members of the diplomatic corps and representatives of international organizations, thanking them for their ongoing collaboration and engagement. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the Uzbek people, acknowledging their contributions to the country's development and their willingness to share expertise and experiences.
