Uzbekistan targets production of 450,000 cars and $700 million in exports next year
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed today on ongoing developments in Uzbekistan’s automotive industry and strategic plans for 2025.
According to the press service of the president, the automotive sector currently contributes 10% to the country’s overall industrial output. Over the first ten months of 2024, 338,000 passenger vehicles were produced, with the localization of 1,400 types of components. Economic measures helped reduce production costs in the industry by 4%, while exports reached $455 million.
The chairman of "Uzavtosanoat" presented the industry's objectives for the upcoming year, emphasizing growth in both production and exports.
In 2025, the industry aims to produce 450,000 vehicles and increase exports to $700 million. Key initiatives include enhancing cooperation with regional enterprises and increasing component localization. Specifically, 63 projects worth $325 million are planned to develop the production of 700 parts.
A significant focus was placed on the new electric vehicle factory in Jizzakh, established in collaboration with the Chinese company BYD. Currently, the factory produces models like Chazor and Song Plus Champion. Expansion plans for the facility include three stages:
• Stage One: Increasing electric vehicle production to 200,000 units annually.
• Stage Two: Investing $300 million to further scale production.
• Stage Three: Boosting capacity to 500,000 vehicles per year.
President Mirziyoyev instructed officials to work closely with Chinese partners to develop additional production capacities and gradually localize the manufacturing of electric vehicle components and spare parts.
To support domestic enterprises, the president emphasized the importance of integrating local companies into the production chain through cooperative efforts.
