Tourism Malaysia promotes Malaysian tourism at Tashkent International Tourism Fair

To enhance Malaysia's visibility in Uzbekistan, Tourism Malaysia participated in the Tashkent International Tourism Fair, titled "Tourism on the Silk Road," held from November 21 to 23, 2024, at CAEx Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

The Ambassador of Malaysia to Uzbekistan, His Excellency Ilham Tuah Illias, along with Mr. Nor Shazly Azmi, Director of Tourism Malaysia Almaty, visited the Malaysian Pavilion. Representing Malaysia’s tourism industry, nine prominent companies showcased their offerings:

Langkawi Development Authority

Asia Premium Holidays Sdn Bhd

Mardhiyyah Hotel & Suites

Fun & Sun Holidays Sdn Bhd

Embassy Alliance Travel Sdn Bhd

Ideal Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Langkawi SkyCab

Lexis Hotels & Resorts Sdn Bhd

Batik Air

These companies aim to solidify Malaysia's position in the Central Asian tourism market.

Tourism and cultural exchange

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Ilham Tuah Illias highlighted the growing ties between Uzbekistan and Malaysia:

“In 2023, approximately 12,000 Malaysian tourists visited Uzbekistan, and the numbers are increasing, with most opting for historical cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva. Similarly, Uzbek tourists are drawn to Malaysia for its diverse landscapes, unique fauna, and vibrant environment.

"Currently, a new sector of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Malaysia is emerging, particularly in tourism and banking. This includes implementing halal systems in both the banking and food sectors. The Malaysian Ministry of Tourism is also conducting training programs in Malaysia to enhance tourism relations, aiming to boost the number of Uzbek tourists visiting our country.”

The fair served as a critical platform for tourism professionals to highlight their destinations, foster collaborations, and explore business opportunities.

Malaysian offerings and visitor engagement

Tourism Malaysia showcased the nation’s rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and diverse experiences to attract more Uzbek travelers. Visitors to the Malaysian booth interacted with knowledgeable representatives, explored exclusive travel packages, and benefited from promotional offers tailored specifically for Uzbek tourists. Engaging interactive displays and informative materials provided a comprehensive overview of travel opportunities in Malaysia.

Mr. Nor Shazly Azmi, Director of Tourism Malaysia Almaty, emphasized the significance of this collaboration:

“As an important market for Malaysia, this event allows both countries to strengthen their ties within the industry, build lasting partnerships, and promote the exchange of culture and tourism between the two nations.”

Visit Malaysia Year 2026

Attendees also gained insights into the upcoming Visit Malaysia Year 2026, during which Malaysia aims to attract 35.6 million tourists and generate RM147.1 billion in tourism revenue.
