Hyundai Heavy Industries ready to employ 350 workers from Uzbekistan under migration agreement
South Korea's Ulsan — the nation’s economic and industrial hub — has agreed to provide direct work visas to citizens of Uzbekistan under a labor migration agreement. The announcement was made by Uzbekistan’s Migration Agency.
The agreement, signed in August 2024 between Ulsan’s administration and Uzbekistan’s Migration Agency, aims to train Uzbek specialists for employment in South Korea’s industrial sector. Ulsan, home to major industrial players such as Hyundai Heavy Industries and innovation clusters like Huawei, is poised to host Uzbek workers in fields including automobile manufacturing, shipbuilding, electronics, and technology.

The first phase of the program will see 350 workers employed at Hyundai Heavy Industries under E-9 visas. These visas, designated for temporary foreign workers, could eventually lead to E-7 visas, which allow long-term residency and family reunification in South Korea.
To support this initiative, Uzbekistan plans to establish specialized training centers to prepare skilled professionals for Ulsan's industries. During discussions between Hyundai Heavy Industries representatives and Habib Sirojiddinov, First Deputy Governor of the Fergana region, plans to create such educational centers and ensure sufficient labor resources were emphasized.

Kim Seong Hoon, a Hyundai Heavy Industries representative, highlighted the importance of adhering to migration laws to ensure the smooth execution of the project. The initiative is being financed by Ulsan’s administration and Hyundai Heavy Industries.
