Russian embassy urges media representatives to comply with Uzbekistan’s laws
The Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan has called on Russian media professionals visiting the country to strictly adhere to local laws following reports of the detention of journalist and blogger Alexey Pivovarov and his filming crew in Nukus.
The team was reportedly detained by local law enforcement for operating without prior accreditation from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a requirement under Uzbek law.
In a statement, the Russian Embassy emphasized the importance of compliance with Uzbekistan’s regulations for foreign journalists and bloggers.
"Due to occasional problematic situations during the activities of Russian media in Uzbekistan, we once again remind all visiting journalists and bloggers of the necessity to strictly observe the laws of this country," the embassy noted.
The embassy urged media professionals to obtain proper accreditation from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs before conducting any journalistic work in the country.
Reports of Pivovarov's detention surfaced on social media, sparking widespread attention. The embassy stated that it had contacted Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to clarify the situation.
According to the regional branch of Uzbekistan’s Agency for Information and Mass Communications in Karakalpakstan, preliminary investigations revealed that the filming crew had violated existing legislation by working without prior accreditation.
Alexey Pivovarov is a prominent Russian journalist known for his work with major networks such as NTV. In recent years, he has produced content on post-Soviet states and global issues through his popular YouTube channel, Redaktsiya.
