Uzbekistan and German Rhenus Group create logistics hub in Andijan

Uztemiryulcontainer, a key player in Uzbekistan’s transport sector, has officially launched its first joint venture with the German logistics giant Rhenus Group. The announcement was made by the company’s press service following a meeting between Uztemiryulcontainer’s CEO, Akmal Kamalov, and Rhenus’ authorized representative, Heinrich Kerstgens, on November 29.

The joint venture, named UzContargo Andijon, will manage a new logistics center in Andijan, located in eastern Uzbekistan. The center will handle container loading and unloading, storage, block-train preparation, and offer "door-to-door" delivery services. The facility's creation is part of a broader initiative outlined in a presidential decree from October 2023 aimed at reforming the country’s railway transport system.

During the meeting, Kamalov and Kerstgens signed a protocol formalizing the establishment of UzContargo Andijon, as well as the foundational documents for the new venture.

In September 2023, Rhenus and Uzbekistan Railways (Uzbekiston Temir Yullari) signed a memorandum of cooperation, outlining plans for the joint venture. This agreement focuses on managing cargo terminals in Andijan and Samarkand, while also boosting the volume of freight rail transport in the country.

Earlier this year, in June 2023, the companies discussed expanding the transport-logistics hub “Akhtachi” in Andijan. Rhenus also announced plans to develop additional centers in Tashkent and Samarkand regions.

Rhenus, which has operated in Uzbekistan since 1996, provides transportation services across Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and southern Kyrgyzstan. The company also has subsidiaries in Kazakhstan.
