Erkinjon Turdimov appointed acting governor of Syrdarya region
Erkinjon Turdimov, who previously led the Navoi, Surkhandarya, and Samarkand regions at different times, has been appointed acting governor of the Syrdarya region by decree of the President of Uzbekistan, returning to a leadership role after a several-month break, according to the president's press service.

Erkinjon Turdimov was born in 1969 in the Kushrabad district of the Samarkand region. He graduated in 1991 from the Tashkent Institute of National Economy with a degree in economics.
He began his career in the banking sector in 1991. From 1995 to 1996, he served as the deputy governor for economic affairs in Zarafshan city. Between 1996 and 2000, he was the head of the Navoi regional branch of the National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity.
From 2000 to 2008, he was the governor of the Khatyrchi district. In 2008, he briefly held the position of First Deputy Minister for Rural Economic Reforms in the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.
From 2008 to 2016, he served as the governor of the Navoi region, and from 2016 to 2018, he held the position of the governor of the Surkhandarya region.
On July 13, 2018, he assumed the role of the governor of the Samarkand region, a position he left in November 2024 due to health reasons.
Since November 26, 2022, Akmaljon Makhmudaliev had been the governor of the Syrdarya region. However, he was dismissed on January 16, 2024, due to significant shortcomings in attracting investments, developing agriculture, and other key areas of activity.
